Lipstick

I read the most amazing thing tonight, which i hope will stem a wonderful journey. God wears lipstick (and no dont get the wrong idea, Read on). An account taken from WWII when the americans liberated bergan-belsen, depicts and image that should strike a note of sadness in the heart of all men. The treatment of these people was as Rob Bell puts it "anti human" or "anti God" but what is funny is as humans, christian or not, we can point to something like this and say that is so horrible i cannot believe something like that could occur, but yet every day most of us do something similar. If we are all image bearers of God, why is it so easy for us to exploit that image. I love the example he uses, of how boys in high school make it a past time to rate a girls on physical attributes ( i am not better-for i have done this many times and things worse) but all the sudden in doing this we have taken away the fact that this person is of any value and we have turned them into an object. "the she/he has turned into that." This makes us no better then the Germans who relegated the jews to nothing. Some might say i am out of my mind for this comparison, because the Germans were much more harsh, but anyway one looks it we have done something to make another feel less the human. So the act is no worse.
It should be our goal and purpose in the world to bring heaven to earth, but i think so often by our actions we can bring hell. Our actions towards one another can cuase hurt for some and in turn ourselves. We dont have enough care for humanity at times. We are all created in the image of God, and we when place ourselves above others and exploit them, we are doing nothing to further the kingdom. At any given time we could be them, some dont chose thier place in life.
So what can we Do? Be the new creation and bring heaven to earth. We need to love and not exploit men. See no differences in people that create the age old addage "us vs. them" (god is color blind). Show people through laughter and service, hugs smiles whatever makes a difference and lets them know they are valued.
so why did i title this lipstick? The end of the chapter states the continuation to the bergen-belsen story. when hundreds were in need of food and all other things, one item that was in abundance was lipstick. Obviously to the logical mind, lipstick would seem pointless, when men women and children are dying, but everywhere you turned women who had nothing would have scarlet lips. This lipstick gave them some form of identity. "Lipstick gave them thier humanity back" -sometimes lipstick is what makes the difference between heaven and hell. Our actions matter, and the simplist gesture can change the world
